Paolo Cazzaniga

“The jewel is a stimulating and sensual plaything; an unnecessary article, indispensible to rouse the natural human inclination to vanity” (Paolo Cazzaniga)

Paolo Cazzaniga is born in Rome in 1940 and from adolescence develops an innate passion for jewellery. In 1966 he graduates in law and, almost at the same time, obtains a diploma at G.I.A. (Gemological Institute of America) Diamonds-Los Angeles.

In 1973 he opens his commercial premises at number 122, via di Ripetta, thus fulfilling the potential matured over the years spent working in his father's jewellery business.

He dedicates himself to innovating and re-launching what is by now known as the Cazzaniga style: he lightens the strongly shaped and highly sculpted pieces produced by Angelo Giorgio, while keeping the style notes of the exuberant lavishness of the Roman Baroque and the graceful influences of Byzantine art. At the same time he adds new shapes and optimises the chromatic possibilities, merging the various tones of gold and coloured stones, embellished by highly skilled traditional engraving. His creations soon generate noted interest at home and abroad.

In 1989, the company Uchihara of Tokyo launches the first Cazzaniga showroom in the Japanese capital: for which Paolo himself designs the furniture and interior display units (made in Italy). Since then, commercial relations in the Far Eastern market have strongly increased, with further openings in Russia, Japan and China.

In 2009 Cazzaniga takes part in the exhibition organised at Metal Ku, in Beijing's arts district 798, Rome, Jewellery. The making of dreams, showing the necklace The Triumph of Baroque (Il trionfo del Barocco).
